Rolling Meadows man faces attempted burglary charges

A Rolling Meadows man, on probation for a sexual offense, was ordered held without bail by Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo Thursday after being charged with attempting to break into an Arlington Heights gas station.

Robert Wilson, 47, was arrested early Thursday after police found him crouching behind a closed Marathon Gas station in the 1700 block of Central Avenue, said Cook County assistant state's attorney David Shin.

Police had stepped up patrols in the area in response to a recent rash of burglaries, including an Aug. 13 burglary at the Marathon station, Shin said.

At the time of his arrest, Wilson was wearing gloves and had his face covered, Shin said. From the scene, police recovered a golf club. They also noticed a shattered window, Shin said.

If convicted of the class 3 felony, Wilson faces up to five years in prison. He next appears in court on Sept. 11.
