Rolling Meadows man charged with sexually abusing girl

A Cook County judge set bail at $500,000 Wednesday for a Rolling Meadows man who authorities say sexually abused a 9-year-old girl.

Judge Joseph Cataldo also ordered Hugo Gonzaga, 39, have no contact with the girl or with anyone under age 18.

Gonzaga faces charges of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. If convicted of the most serious charge, he faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.

Gonzaga is accused of touching the girl on Aug. 11, first at his apartment and later at the apartment complex swimming pool, where, Assistant State's Attorney Alyssa Grissom said, he followed the girl around asking her to come near him.

The girl told her mother about the abuse that day and informed both her parents on Aug. 13, Grissom said.

Gonzaga, who prosecutors say has no criminal background, next appears in court on Sept. 10.
