Des Plaines man charged with St. Charles sex assault
A 48-year-old Des Plaines man has been charged with sexually assaulting a minor in St. Charles, according to police and court records.
Mark L. Scalia, of the 1000 block of Hollywood Drive, was arrested over the weekend and charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault of a victim who cannot give consent, according to Kane County court records.
Scalia is accused of assaulting the girl on Oct. 24, 2014, and he faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted, records show.
St. Charles police Cmdr. Jerry Gatlin said it was not a random attack.
"It was not a 'stranger danger' case," said Gatlin.
Gatlin could not immediately provide additional information.
Scalia was being held on $200,000 bail, meaning he must post $20,000 to be released from the Kane County jail while the case is pending.
He is next due in court Aug. 28. It was unclear whether he had hired an attorney.
