Storm rakes Arlington Heights

Intense scattered storms could hang around through Wednesday after causing some damage Monday evening.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Cook and DuPage counties until 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Heavy rains, winds and some hail were reported throughout the suburbs, with Arlington Heights bearing the brunt of the damage, ABC 7 reported.

The storm knocked down trees and destroyed patio furniture at Tommy Bucchianeri's home in Arlington Heights.

"I got very scared," he told ABC 7. "The wind had to be 100 miles per hour or more. These trees were bowing."

The storm also downed power lines onto busy Euclid Road, uprooting an evergreen and damaging a car in the driveway of a home.

Additional reports of tree damage came from Plainfield and in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood, as well as a flooded viaduct in Highland Park that trapped three cars for a short time, ABC 7 reported.

Periodic rain is expected Tuesday and Wednesday.
