Giant water slide takes over Main Street in Algonquin
Hundreds of local residents took rides on a giant green 1,000-foot water slide during the Slide the City event Saturday on Main Street in Algonquin
Using inner tubes either provided at the venue or brought from home, kids of all ages (that means adults, too) took to the slide with running jumps and glided on their bellies or took the easygoing way by just sitting back in their tubes to enjoy the ride.
Sometimes a dip in the channel collected water so riders got an extra splash in the face as their tubes hit the depression.
"It was very fun," said Max Busse, 6, of Carpentersville. Max and his family packed a picnic lunch and planned to stay all day.
His father, Sedric Busse, said, "It's neat. We've driven down this street many, many times and never had a chance to actually just kind of admire it because you're always going with the flow of traffic, so it's pretty cool. It's a nice event to kind of see the downtown area of Algonquin."
The festival, also featuring live music, food, drinks and kids events, continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Festival tickets begin at $5 per person; free for kids 12 and younger. Slide tickets can be purchased for $30 at the gate. Special family and friend packages and multiple-ride deals are available at slidethecity.com/events/algonquin/.
