Rob Roy Country Club Village in neighborhood profile

Anna and Ken Miller raised their family in Glenview, where they lived for 27 years, and then moved to Mesa, Arizona. They frequently returned to the area to see their children, and thought they'd move back someday to be near family.

On annual visits over six years, they became familiar with Rob Roy Country Club Village in Prospect Heights. Two and a half years ago, they bought a residence in the community.

“(Real estate brokers) Ken and Elaine Gleeson were so kind to meet with us every year and show us around. They made us feel at home, and we remain good friends,” Ken Miller said.

The beautiful, parklike setting and the Rob Roy golf course and clubhouse with its pool and activities drew the couple to the community.

“Rob Roy has a lot to offer,” Miller said. “We're very active in the community and have met so many nice people. We like to help out when we can and have served on the board of directors and various committees.”

Rob Roy Country Club Village, located east of Wheeling Road and north of Euclid Avenue, was built by Lexington Homes in the mid-1980s and is a very popular community where homes sell quickly, said Elaine Ritsert Greeson, real estate broker with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. Her husband, Ken Greeson, is also a broker and together they are the EKG Broker Team. They are also both leisure-living specialists.

Rob Roy Country Club Village offers a choice of four different residences — villas, country homes, carriage homes and arbor homes — with 21 different floor plans. Homes feature 900 to more than 2,000 square feet with one- or two-car garages. All the homes have very desirable floor plans that still remain trendy today, said Greeson, who has lived in the community with her husband for 22 years.

“The setting here is beautiful,” Greeson said. “I'm sitting on my patio overlooking the golf course — the seventh hole. We don't golf, but we enjoy watching the golfers. There are very few places where you can find a duplex like this, and they make a great transition from a single-family home.”

Many of Greeson's buyers this year have been young professionals in their 30s and 40s who put Rob Roy at the top of their lists, she said. The community has a nice mix of younger people and original owners who moved in 30 years ago, she said.

“This is such a warm and friendly place that once people are part of the community, they don't want to move,” Greeson said. “People also love all the activities here such as the annual pet parade, golf league, bocce ball league, book group, bridge and more. We might even be in the bocce ball playoffs.”

The Rob Roy Golf Course that winds through the community is a public course owned by the River Trails Park District. It offers a restaurant and bar. Residents also have access to biking and walking trails.

For shopping, dining and entertainment close to home, Randhurst Village in Mount Prospect offers a beautiful, open-air center with a diverse mix of retail stores, many good restaurants and a 12-screen movie theater.

A major asset of the city is the Chicago Executive Airport, the third largest airport in the Chicago area and one of the busiest small airports in the country. The airport benefits area businesses including hotels, restaurants and shopping centers.
