Ravinia District's Third Thursdays focus on families

The Ravinia District is excited to announce its August Third Thursday will focus on the family.

Highland Park Bank and Trust will host its annual outdoor carnival from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in the Ravinia District's Brown Park. Families will enjoy the free carnival atmosphere, food and entertainment.

The kid-friendly carnival will be complete with a bounce house, face painting, carnival games and a raffle to win a free backpack.

Children from The Performers School in Highwood will put on a short concert at the event. Other Ravinia businesses will also be participating in the family fun. Joe Palminteri State Farm will have popcorn with a topping bar, Design Quartet at Ravinia will provide complimentary face painting, Full Circle Architects will have a spread of drawing and coloring activities, Ravinia Barber Shop will do hair and Pieros Pizza will be handing out slices of pizza and small samples of pasta.

The Highland Park Public Library will also be hosting family-friendly activities during the event. Ravinia Festival is excited to bring an instrument petting zoo to the Ravinia Business District.

Other participating businesses include: SoShee Boutique, Arthur M. Feldman Gallery and Uncle Dan's - The Great Outdoor Store, along with the Highland Park Fire Department.

Ravinia District's Third Thursdays will feature several themes throughout 2015, including a progressive holiday party and quarterly Design and Dine evenings. Other Ravinia District "doings" to watch for include: a free music series in Jens Jensen Park Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. through August; Ravinia Farmers Market through Oct. 28; and the Ravinia District fall festival celebrating music and community, scheduled for Oct. 2-3.
