Augustfest comes to a close in Des Plaines

The community church festival Augustfest wrapped up its four-day run Sunday at St. Zachary Parish in Des Plaines.

"Augustfest has been around for 32 years. This is the longest-running church fest in the area. We are very proud of it here at St. Zachary," said Linda Forman, co-chair for Augustfest. "It is a family event. They gather to come and see this band or that band or just to come out and have a family picnic. They really enjoy it."

The event featured a carnival, festival bands, food, bingo, a Las Vegas-style casino and a raffle. All the money goes back to the church, with some of it earmarked to restore the outdoor cross and some to help with Catholic education.

Several festivalgoers enjoyed a game called Bottle Blast, in which everyone draws a winning ticket with prizes ranging from a bottle of salad dressing to a bottle of wine.

Performers on the main stage included Maggie Klicka, Champagne Exodus, Maddy Griseto, and the Meteors.
