Mane Event, Taste take over Arlington Hts. this weekend

The streets of downtown Arlington Heights will be filled with celebrations this weekend as the Mane Event and Taste of Arlington Heights draw visitors and residents looking to support local businesses while enjoying food, fun and music.

The annual weekend of festivities serves as a kickoff to the week of the Arlington Million, which will be run Aug. 15 at Arlington Park.

The Mane Event opens the weekend from 5-11 p.m. on Friday near Vail and Campbell. The block-party styled event serves as a business expo for members of the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce, but also includes music, food and entertainment for the whole family. The crowd will be treated to music by The Meteors at 6 p.m. and Mike & Joe at 8:30 p.m.

Nearly 50 local businesses will have exhibits at the Mane Event.

The Taste of Arlington Heights runs from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday.

The entertainment lineup includes School of Rock at noon, the finale and winner announcement for the Suburban Chicago's Got Talent competition at 2 p.m., Stone Cold Cash, a Johnny Cash tribute band at 5 p.m., SunFallen at 6:30 p.m. and 7th Heaven at 8:30 p.m.

More than 20 food vendors including Ditka's Arlington Heights, Salsa 17, Circa 57 and Rack House Kitchen & Tavern will be serving refreshments. Also joining the food vendors this year is Cortland's Garage, the new restaurant scheduled to open in the former Harry's of Arlington location later this summer.

According to the Chamber of Commerce, about 20,000 people attend the Mane Event and Taste of Arlington each year.

Organizers are asking visitors to use the hashtag #tasteah2015 for photos, videos and posts on social media during the weekend.
