Streamwood teen gets prison in backyard robbery attempt
A Streamwood teen was sentenced to prison after he admitted going into a backyard and attempting to rob a man.
Konrad Janel, 19, pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated robbery and was sentenced to four years in prison.
Prosecutors said Janel covered his face with a shirt when he entered a backyard in the 1400 block of Laura Oaks Drive in Streamwood on May 3. Janel told witnesses he had a gun, then demanded money and cigarettes from the male victim, prosecutors said during Janel's bond hearing.
The victim, who authorities said has a concealed carry permit, pulled a gun on Janel, who fled. A companion of Janel's, who was with him at the time but was not charged with a crime, was restrained by other witnesses until police arrived. The companion later identified Janel as the would-be robber.
Janel, who was also ordered to pay $694 in fines, received credit for 93 days in custody. He must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
