Dist. 25's superintendent works for change, improvements

It is now a little over a year since Dr. Lori Bein took over as superintendent of Arlington Heights School District 25 and as she says, the "honeymoon year is over."

"I am overwhelmed with joy from the incredible outpouring support from our community, students, staff and administrators this past year. That support motivates us here in the district to continue to provide students of Arlington Heights School District 25 the greatest educational experience possible."

Changes are ongoing in the district, including a new reading curriculum for K-5, and a new middle school math curriculum. Bein and Assistant Superintendent of Student Learning Dr. Eric Olson were able to collaborate with the principals and teachers of the district. Now the students and staff will see their input, put to action.

"Change can be scary, but these changes are based on everyone communicating together," Bein said. "Everyone needs to feel safe and try to get better by sharing thoughts and valuing each other's input. This is a safe work environment for ideas and change."

The opportunity of growing enrollment in the district, especially at Ivy Hill Elementary, was met with action. Expansion for Ivy Hill and Olive-Mary Stitt Elementary will continue throughout this school year but will not affect the students' learning environment.

The growth within the district is something Bein is also proud of. Her new team of administrators and staff have built a strong working relationship and the transition this past year has led to a bright future.

"Consistency within education is essential," Assistant Superintendent of Personnel and Planning Jake Chung said. "Individuals are here to support everyone, district wide. The continued improvement of organizational health within our district has been a welcomed change."

Chung was also the lead in implementing "Substitute University," a course and training program for potential substitute teachers for Arlington Heights School District 25.

Arlington Heights School District 25 has actively engaged the community this past year and has reached the town's realtors and constituents. The relationship will continue to grow this year as the district takes the next steps for its students, community and staff.
