One dead after motorcycle crash on Route 176

A Round Lake man was found dead early Thursday after a motorcycle crash near Wauconda.

Edward B. Bucel, 36, died after wrecking his 2015 Harley Davidson on Route 176 at Ivanhoe Road. Bucel was headed east when he crashed, Lake County sheriff's police said.

The accident was reported about 5:30 a.m. by a pedestrian who came across the scene. Police think the crash occurred after midnight but they are trying to narrow the time frame.

Police believe Bucel, who was not wearing a helmet, improperly handled a curve in the road. The motorcycle struck several small trees and a utility pole.

Bucel was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was underway Thursday afternoon.

Route 176 was closed between Fairfield Road and Hawley Street for about six hours as police investigated the crash.
