Wheaton swimmer qualifies for U.S. Olympic Trials

Max St. George of the B.R. Ryall YMCA Swim Team has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials.

The 18-year-old Wheaton native swam the 100 meter backstroke in 57.16 seconds at the Illinois YMCA State Championships on Sunday, July 19. Finishing first, he beat the Olympic qualifying time of 57.19 and earned a coveted spot in the 2016 USA Swimming Olympic Team Trials.

"Max's love of competition was extremely evident this entire year and it is what his training has focused on as well," said Chris Flamion, head coach of the B.R. Ryall YMCA Swim Team.

"To achieve this time with his entire team on deck was truly special. Our team and families, our Y and its members, and the local communities could not be prouder to be represented by Max."

The USA Swimming Olympic Team Trials are June 26 to July 3, 2016, in Omaha, Nebraska. The trials will determine the 2016 U.S. Olympic Swim Team that will represent Team USA at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

St. George has been a member of the B.R. Ryall YMCA Swim Team for 12 years, and graduated this year from Wheaton North High School. He will swim for Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
