$1M bail for Elgin man accused of rape, kidnapping

An Elgin man was being held on $1 million bail after his arrest on charges that he kidnapped and raped a girl younger than 18 that he knew.

Jesus Vazquez-Zamora, 24, of the 400 block of Enterprise Street, has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim at least five years younger than the defendant, criminal sexual assault by force and kidnapping, all felonies, according to Kane County court records.

Zamora is accused of forcefully assaulting the victim, who is between 13 and 17 years old, on Saturday, according to court records.

He also is accused of inducing the victim to go from the 100 block of College Street to the 0-99 block of Slade Avenue with the intent to hold her against her will, according to court records.

Elgin police deferred questions to the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, which investigates crimes against children.

CAC Executive Director Deb Bree said she could not elaborate on the entire case, but noted it was not a random incident.

"(The victim) was a person known to (Zamora)," Bree said. "It was not a complete stranger."

A message left with Zamora's defense attorney, Elizabeth Pudwill, was not immediately returned.

If Zamora posts the required $100,000 to be released from the Kane County jail while the case is pending, he must stay 150 feet away from the victim's residence and not have any contact with her.

Zamora is next due in court Friday, and he faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted and must register as a sex offender.

He does not have any previous arrests or convictions in Kane County.
