Stores open during Algonquin Commons construction

Navigating through the Algonquin Commons shopping center along Randall Road is a bit of a maze these days.

But even though you may not be able to park as close as before to your favorite stores, see the shops through some of the construction chaos or even walk in front of some of them, mall officials want you to know they still are open.

This summer, the mall is undergoing some improvements in its parking lots and on its sidewalks. Workers are replacing and upgrading all of the storefront sidewalks and asphalt.

For the project, some car and foot traffic is being rerouted. So where you previously could drive on the road right in front of the stores at the mall, you now have to drive in a marked area that previously was part of the parking area. There are sawhorses and cones rerouting the traffic. It is a bit slower going, but there are spots designated for parking and driving to get you where you want to go.

There also are signs designating new, temporary customer walkways that go from the parking lot to the stores. For example, there is a walkway to get to the new sidewalks located at Shoelace, Charming Charlie, Hallmark, Carters, Gymboree, J Jill, Pottery Barn, Victoria's Secret, Rue 21 and Torrid.

The project is expected to take place throughout the summer and fall of this year.

The work began at the far southeast corner of the mall near Half-Price Books and is progressing all the way to Trader Joe's at the opposite end of Algonquin Commons.

As part of the project, kids can get a free toy construction hat at the mall office, which is between Tilly's and Aeropostale.

During the project some stores also are offering construction sales to let customers know they are still open.

There also will be giveaways posted on the mall's social media sites to get people into the stores.
