Accidents, one fatal, force expressway lane closures
A Beloit, Wisconsin, man was killed and six people were hospitalized Saturday following two separate early-morning accidents on suburban expressways.
Lavon Deangelo Woods, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash that occurred about 6:10 a.m. on westbound I-90 between Randall Road and Route 31 in Elgin, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.
Woods, who authorities say was wearing his seat belt, lost control of the 2004 Buick Regal he was driving and collided with a semitrailer parked on the right shoulder, an ISP spokesman said.
The cause of the crash, which shut down the right lane and shoulder for about four hours, is under investigation, authorities said.
In a separate incident, six people were hospitalized following a crash that occurred about 9 a.m. Saturday on the westbound Edens Expressway near Hwy. 60 in Lake Forest. The single passenger vehicle crash forced the closure of three left lanes for several hours, an ISP spokesman said.
No other information was immediately available about the Edens Expressway crash.
