Palatine Twp. residents can offer input on roads

Palatine Township residents are invited to provide their feedback on a draft of a strategic plan created by Highway Commissioner Tom Kaider, along with a committee charged with developing both short and long term goals for the Palatine Township Road District.

"We ask that Palatine Township residents take the time to review the draft strategic plan and provide comments and/or suggestions," Kaider said. "Feedback will be accepted until July 31, with a goal of finalizing the plan by Aug. 31, to set the future course for the road district."

Palatine Township residents can email comments to RoadDistrict@PalatineTownship.com or mail them to: Palatine Township Road District, Attention Strategic Plan, 530 N. Smith St., Palatine, IL 60067.

The Palatine Township Road District is unable to reply individually to comments, but will take them into account as the strategic plan is finalized.

To review the draft strategic plan, visit www.RoadDistrict.com and select the option under "Public Awareness."

Palatine Township encompasses a 36-square-mile area. The Palatine Township Road District maintains the right-of-way of many of the streets in all unincorporated areas. The right-of-way is 66 feet wide, or 33 feet from the center of the street to the property line. Within that 66 feet, the road district assumes many responsibilities.

The road district is equipped to handle a majority of the duties and contacts with private enterprise to fulfill all of its responsibilities. Intergovernmental cooperation with neighboring municipalities is common, where manpower and equipment are often exchanged to improve overall efficiency.
