<h3 class="briefHead">Grace at Nellie's</h3>

"People try to tell me I'm too young to have the blues." Algonquin's teen singer-songwriter Althea Grace may be young, but her vocals belie that youth. Between Grace's mastery of her sound and the depth of her lyrics, she's definitely bringing some soulful jams to Durty Nellie's Friday, June 10, opening for Chicago rock band Groot and the fun and funky rockers EGi. 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 10, at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine. $10. (847) 358-9150 or durtynellies.com.

<h3 class="briefHead">Arlo visits the Arcada</h3>

Folk singer and social activist Arlo Guthrie takes much influence from his father, folk singer and composer Woody Guthrie, but his anti-war songs and anthems for social justice aren't his only claims to fame. Guthrie's recording of Steve Goodman's "City of New Orleans" is one of his biggest hits, as well as his spoken-word "Alice's Restaurant Massacree." Guthrie brings his bluesy, folksy songs to the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles. 5 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. $39-$99. (630) 962-7000 or oshows.com.
