Volo woman charged in 3 bank robberies

A Volo woman was indicted in federal court on Tuesday and charged in connection with three robberies or attempted robberies at Chase Banks in northern Illinois earlier this year, including one in Grayslake.

Teresa M. Knowles, 39, was charged with robberies at a Chase Bank in Crystal Lake on March 21 and in Grayslake on March 24 and the attempted robbery of a Chase Bank in Johnsburg, also on March 24, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney's office in Rockford.

Each count of bank robbery and attempted bank robbery carries a maximum potential penalty of up to 20 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release after prison, a fine up to $250,000 and full restitution, the release said.

Knowles is scheduled for an initial court appearance at 11 a.m. Thursday In federal court in Rockford.

The FBI and police departments from Johnsburg, McHenry, Grayslake and Crystal Lake assisted in the investigation.
