Des Plaines Elementary School District 62 Superintendent Jane Westerhold has been appointed president of the Illinois Association of School Administrators.

Brent Clark, the association's executive director, said in a news release Westerhold's experience and leadership skills will serve her well in providing leadership for the organization, which has more than 1,700 administrators as members.

Westerhold was named the Illinois Superintendent of the Year by the association in 2013.

She said she will work toward supporting the Vision 20/20 policy platform, a long-range plan aimed at improving public education statewide, which has been adopted by the association and other education groups.

Her one-year term begins Wednesday.
