Oakton College hires two new administrators

Oakton Community College has hired two new administrators to replace one person who left, and another who will become the new college president.

Karl Brooks has been hired as the college's new vice president of student affairs, replacing Joianne Smith, who becomes Oakton's president July 1. Brooks, currently dean of student success at Joliet Junior College, will make $158,108. His first day is Aug. 10.

Paul Palian will be Oakton's new director of college relations, replacing Janet Spector Bishop, who took a job earlier this year as director of communications and community relations at East Maine School District 63. Palian, currently director of media and public relations at Northern Illinois University, will make $101,500. His first day is July 20.

Both new hires were approved by the school board this week.
