November trial date set in 2010 Gilberts murder case

A Nov. 2 trial date is set for a Gilberts man accused of murdering a South Korean national he took into his home after they met at church.

Su Won Kil, 47, has been free on bond since being charged in the fatal shooting of Dae Hae Kwak in August 2010.

Kwak, a 61-year-old independent cabdriver, met Kil through Cornerstone Church in Elgin, where Kil was a choir member.

Kil's defense attorney, Patrick Crimmins, argued at a bond hearing in 2010 that Kil was defending himself against a Taser attack and robbery attempt from Kwak. The retired information technology worker called 911 himself the morning of Kwak's death, has no previous criminal record and has significant support from his friends and church members.

"All the things that I said before are still true," Crimmins said recently. He declined to elaborate further on the case.

Kil faces between 45 and 85 years in prison if convicted of first-degree murder with a firearm. He is next due in court July 16.

Trial set in 2014 Aurora murder

A pair of siblings from Joliet will stand trial Nov. 16 on charges they gunned down a 20-year-old man at an Aurora restaurant in early 2014.

Dimitri J. Hosey-Green, 20, and Jaquan D. Hosey-Green, 21, have been held on $1 million bail since their January 2014 arrest in the death of Arin T. Williams of Aurora.

Police said the brothers went with Williams to the now-shuttered La Torta restaurant, 878 N. Lake St., in the Northgate Shopping Center under the guise of buying drugs. When all three went into a restroom, the Hosey-Green brothers began beating Williams in an attempt to rob him, police said.

Dimitri Hosey-Green is accused of firing a fatal shot into Williams' head before the suspects ran across Lake Street to a relative's apartment, police said.

If convicted of murder and firing the weapon, Dimitri Hosey-Green faces between 45 and 85 years in prison with no chance at an early release. His brother faces 20 to 60 years in prison if convicted.
