Benet's Doyle picks Nebraska

Benet guard Kathleen Doyle announced Tuesday she will play basketball at the University of Nebraska.

Doyle, who led the Redwings to the Class 4A championship as a junior, was highly recruited by a number of top Division I programs, including other Big Ten programs.

"As a coach you always hope that hardworking and unselfish players like Kathleen will be rewarded for their efforts," Benet coach Joe Kilbride said. "I am very excited for her. She had some tremendous opportunities, but Coach Yori and her staff and players at Nebraska somehow won her over. As someone who has had the good fortune to coach her the past few years I believe Nebraska is going to find out quickly what an outstanding person and player she is and I believe she will have an outstanding career in the Big Ten."

Doyle was the Daily Herald's All-Area captain last winter. She averaged 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and more than 5 assists a game her junior season, when she was named Associated Press second-team all-state. She has scored more than 1,000 points for the Benet varsity.
