New Des Plaines principal appointed

Jose Celis has been appointed principal of Orchard Place Elementary School on Des Plaines' south side, beginning in August.

Celis, who has been principal of Pine Lakes Elementary School in Wayne, New Jersey for the last two years, is returning to Illinois after serving as principal of Mark Twain Elementary School and assistant principal of Holmes Middle School in Wheeling Township Elementary District 21. He previously was an eighth grade bilingual teacher at Indian Trail Junior High School in Addison and began his teaching career in Maplewood, New Jersey.

Des Plaines Elementary District 62 officials say as principal in New Jersey, Celis helped implement a robotics program between high school programming students and special education students and created an after-school enrichment program.

Celis succeeds Julio Lopez, who is relocating to Texas. Orchard Place has 330 students in grades K-5.
