Politics momentarily stops for Blackhawks talk
Illinois lawmakers put off the state's serious challenges for a few minutes Tuesday to honor the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup victory at the Capitol in Springfield.
Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin took to the Senate floor in Washington, D.C., to praise the team.
"If you've spent any time at all around the game of hockey, you've wondered what it must feel like, to stand at the end of a very long season, after three long periods of total effort and white-knuckle moments, before tens of thousands of elated fans, and hoist up the most storied trophy in all of sports," Durbin said.
In Springfield, lawmakers were at the Capitol as they remain locked in a stalemate over the state budget.
Still, state Rep. Marty Moylan of Des Plaines wore a red Blackhawks shirt and state Rep. Steve Andersson of Geneva donned a team hat among the typical tie-and-jacket attire.
Moylan and state Rep. Tim Butler of Springfield grabbed a microphone on the House floor before serious business began to honor the team. Moylan sang an abbreviated version of "Chelsea Dagger" before things got back to normal.
