Summer reading club for kids

State Rep. Sheri Jesiel of Winthrop Harbor is offering a summer reading club to keep children intellectually engaged during summer vacation. The program is for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Participation brochures are available Jesiel's district office in the Warren Township Center, 17801 W. Washington St., Gurnee. For information, call (847) 855-8600. To be a member, children are asked to read eight books - books over 150 pages count for two - between the end of school and the program deadline, July 25. Children who meet the goal will be invited to an ice cream social in August that will offer games and prizes. This program can be done in conjunction with any program already in existence at a child's school, or offered through the public library in their community. Return the completed form to Jesiel's office by July 25 to qualify.
