Look out for more ramp switches, closures on I-90

With eastbound ramp closures coming soon, drivers will need to rethink their grand entrance onto the Jane Addams Tollway (I-90) from Route 59.

The Illinois tollway will shut down the ramps from Route 59 onto eastbound I-90 in Hoffman Estates the week of June 22 as it continues supersizing the Jane Addams. The closure will continue through August.

Traffic will be detoured north on Route 59, west on Higgins Road (Route 72) and south on Beverly to reach eastbound I-90.

All other ramps at the interchange will stay open.

The tollway is rebuilding and resurfacing sections of the interchange ramps as it widens the Jane Addams by a lane in both directions. The work is part of the agency's $12 billion 15-year construction program.

Nearly 7,580 vehicles use these ramps on a daily basis.

Other ramp switches are occurring on the Jane Addams as part of the $2.5 billion rebuild. These include:

• Closing ramps from Route 25 onto westbound I-90;

• Rerouting ramps taking people from Route 31 to the westbound Jane Addams and from westbound I-90 to southbound Route 31.
