Memorial ceremony site not appropriate

The decision by Arlington Heights to move its Memorial Day ceremony to Christian Liberty Academy was inappropriate. Memorial Day honors the memory of all those who gave their lives in service to our country including Christians, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, atheists and others, and including gay and lesbian people who fought and died for our country and who until recently had to hide their identities.

Christian Liberty Academy is a private, sectarian school that teaches an extreme form of Christianity and chooses not to be accredited by the state. It has welcomed anti-gay groups to use its campus to spread their divisive beliefs. It is not an appropriate venue for what should be a unifying event.
