South wins battle of Downers Grove
Downers Grove South 12, Downers Grove North 2:
The Mustangs (30-5) scored 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the Class 4A Romeoville sectional semifinal baseball game. Top-seeded Downers South will vie for its second straight sectional title on Saturday against Thursday's winner between Naperville Central and Plainfield North. Ryan Taylor and Joe LaCivita drove in 3 runs apiece while Corey Vondra added 2 hits and Danny Oriente doubled twice and had 2 RBI. Winning pitcher Peter Hamot allowed only 3 hits in 6 innings. Myles Farley launched a 2-run fourth-inning homer for Downers North (24-13).
