Hoffman Estates annual fishing derby is Saturday

Adults and kids alike are invited to the Hoffman Estates Community Fishing Derby, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday June 6 at South Ridge Lake, 1450 Freeman Road.

Sponsored by the Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Sears Holdings Corp., the annual events attracts hundreds of fishermen, children and families for a day of recreation and prizes. Food vendors, bait sales, a fishing rigging-help station are all part of the event.

The top prize is a $1,000 shopping spree at Cabela's in Hoffman Estates. Every fifteen minutes a door prize will be announced. Registered fishermen can win fishing rods and reels, tackle boxes and lures, sports equipment and other prizes.

There is no age or residency requirement to participate.

South Ridge Lake will be stocked with 100 tagged bluegills and catfish, and each tag is worth $10 to $100. This is a catch and release event! Barbless hooks are highly recommended.
