Metea Valley's season ends

Plainfield North 4, Metea Valley 1:

The Mustangs (21-14) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Matt Fitzgerald's sacrifice fly, but Plainfield North starter Matt Vanek closed the game with 6 shutout innings to help the Panthers advance to play Naperville Central in Thursday's Class 4A Romeoville sectional semifinals. Jack Szott and Ben Belskis combined on the mound for Metea Valley, which surrendered 3 runs in the third inning and another run in the fourth.

Downers Grove South 1, Yorkville 0:

The Mustangs (29-5) made a fourth-inning run hold up as they advanced into Wednesday's Class 4A Romeoville sectional semifinals to face rival Downers Grove North. Zach Jones pitched 6 scoreless innings before Peter Hamot notched the save with a scoreless seventh. Zach Radde's sacrifice fly scored Danny Oriente, who had one of the team's 3 hits, with the game's only run.
