Fifth Graders Can Run in District 25!

A track meet for all District 25 fifth graders was recently held at South Middle School in Arlington Heights. Over 140 students from seven elementary schools competed in this elective afterschool event. The afternoon consisted of a mile run, the 50, 100, and 200 yard runs, and 4X200 relays.

The event is run by District 25's elementary PE and Adapted PE teachers with assistance from parents and middle school students. It gives fifth graders the opportunity to improve their scores by competing against other students of the same ability level. "What a great event! The weather held out and the kids had a blast running on the track. Many students beat their previous records, and I'm sure we have sparked some interest in track and field," said Eric Kirschner, Westgate Elementary's PE teacher.
