Stevenson High School honors boys state gymnastics champs with celebration

Stevenson High School students and staff honored the state-champion boys gymnastics team with a ceremony Thursday morning.

About 50 people gathered in the Lincolnshire school's recital hall for the event, which included a video of highlights from the season. Coach Eric Liva and some of the athletes spoke, too.

The title is the fifth in program history.

It's also the fourth athletic state title for Stevenson this school year. The football and boys basketball teams also won crowns, as did a girls doubles tennis team.

Academically, Stevenson also won team state titles in mathematics and Science Olympiad competitions.

"What an incredible year this has been at Stevenson," school spokesman Jim Conrey said. "I don't know if any Illinois high school has ever had this level of success in one school year. I can't imagine any school topping this."
