Cubs to make roster moves

The Cubs will open their series at San Diego on Tuesday night with some roster changes.

Left-handed pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada will come off the disabled list and start Wednesday night's game. Outfielder Junior Lake will be recalled from Class AAA Iowa. To make room, the Cubs will option reliever Brian Schlitter to Iowa and designate left-handed reliever Phil Coke for assignment.

Wada will take the place in the rotation of lefty Travis Wood, who was moved to the bullpen over the weekend. The Cubs had hoped to activate infielder Tommy La Stella off the DL, but he reinjured his side Sunday while playing in a rehab game at Class AA Tennessee.

Schlitter was called up over the weekend and made 2 appearances. He was a reinforcement for a taxed bullpen. Coke was 0-0 with a 6.30 ERA in 16 appearances this season.

Wada, who went on the DL March 27 with a mild strain of his left groin, made 13 starts for the Cubs last year, going 4-4 with a 3.25 ERA.
