Vintage fire trucks on display Saturday in Lake Barrington

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District will present a "historic" collection of vintage fire trucks and firefighting equipment Saturday, at its first antique fire truck show.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at Fire Station #1, 22222 N. Pepper Road in Lake Barrington.

Good for all ages, the show will feature nearly two dozen antique vehicles on display, free hot dogs and refreshments, and games and activities for the whole family. An on-site blood drive, hosted by LifeSource from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., will allow attendees to give the gift of life.

The antique truck show will feature vehicles and equipment from the Northern Illinois Fire Museum, and several other area fire departments and districts. Guests will learn more about the rich history of the fire service and how today's firefighters uphold the traditions.

"Our organization takes tremendous pride in upholding fire service traditions. They are the underpinnings of our duty to protect those we serve," BCFPD Captain Angela Grandgeorge said. "We are excited to partner with the Northern Illinois Fire Museum to share a bit of fire service history with our residents in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.

"It will also help them gain a better understanding of the services the district provides."

Meanwhile, the blood drive will help LifeSource replenish its supply of blood products used by area hospitals. Although the BCFPD's primary responsibilities are fire suppression and emergency medical services, firefighters stand ready to "roll up their sleeves" and offer support.

To schedule an appointment to give blood, call LifeSource at (877) 543-3768 or visit www.lifesource.org and enter code 763A.

For more information about the event, call the BCFPD at (224) 848-4800.

Established in 1940, the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District serves portions of Barrington Hills, South Barrington, Lake Barrington and Inverness; and portions of unincorporated Cook, Lake and McHenry counties. Its services are strengthened through automatic aid agreements and partnerships with 12 surrounding fire departments and fire districts.
