Des Plaines alderman ready to go to trial

A trial date for Des Plaines Alderman Dick Sayad has been set.

Proceedings in his criminal trespassing case will begin at 1:30 p.m. June 16 in Skokie.

"We're ready for trial," Sayad said. "I'm ready to tell what transpired and see what happens."

Sayad was arrested Feb. 27 on misdemeanor charges of criminal trespassing to property after walking into Dave Uhrich's home unannounced two days earlier. The city's veteran 4th Ward alderman, recently re-elected to a fourth term, has said he went to the house to resolve complaints of an unshoveled sidewalk.

"I was just doing my job as an alderman," Sayad said.

He said he mistook Uhrich's home for a house divided into apartments.
