Des Plaines seeks input on Metropolitan Square renovation

The Department of Community and Economic Development and its planning partners, The Lakota Group, are actively seeking community input and ideas for improvements to downtown's Metropolitan Square.

"The city is encouraging residents and businesses to take this opportunity to share their ideas for the future of this site," said Economic Development Coordinator Lauren Pruss.

"For the public's convenience, we have scheduled three input sessions at different times of the day and week knowing that it's important to get the opinions of as many people as possible."

The city will be scheduling a separate input session for local business owners.

The meetings are scheduled for 4:30 to 6: 30 p.m. Monday, May 18, at Elite Training and Fitness, 1479 Market St.; 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at Tap House Grille, 1472 Market St.; and 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Metra station, 1501 Miner St.

The city is looking for ways to transform the underutilized space into a destination site for special events, shoppers, and the community at large.

Residents' individual thoughts and opinions will shape the renovation.

For people who are unable to attend the sessions, a brief online survey has been created that can be accessed at www.surveymonkey.com/s/MetroSquare.
