Wisconsin police investigating death of former Long Grove woman

Wisconsin authorities on Friday said they'll turn to a forensic anthropologist to determine the cause of death for a long-missing woman with roots in the Northwest suburbs.

Kelly Dwyer, a Milwaukee woman who once lived in Long Grove and graduated from Stevenson High School in 2005, disappeared in October 2013. She was last seen entering her boyfriend's apartment building in Milwaukee.

Her skeletal remains were found May 1 in Concord, Wisconsin, a town midway between Madison and Milwaukee, said Jefferson County Medical Examiner Nichol Wayd.

The remains were identified Thursday using dental records.

A Concord resident found the remains about 20 feet from a roadway, near a tree line, Wayd said.

An autopsy was conducted Monday, but officials couldn't determine how Dwyer died. More tests are needed, Wayd said.

Milwaukee police said they and Jefferson County authorities are investigating why Dwyer disappeared and how she died.

Dwyer's boyfriend, Kris Zocco, was considered a person of interest in her disappearance.

Surveillance video captured Dwyer entering the apartment building, but she wasn't seen leaving it.

In January, Zocco was sentenced to 19 years in prison after child pornography and drug-related convictions.

Zocco hasn't been charged with any crime relating to Dwyer's disappearance or death.

A Milwaukee police spokesman didn't respond to specific questions about Dwyer's disappearance or the subsequent investigation.

While at Stevenson High, Dwyer played on the girls tennis team for two years and was a member of the yearbook and newspaper staffs, school spokesman Jim Conrey said.

School officials were saddened to learn of Dwyer's death, he said.

"When she was first reported missing 18 months ago, we were hopeful that this story would have a good ending. Unfortunately, it did not," Conrey said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Dwyer family and all of Kelly's friends."

Acquaintances and strangers shared condolences on a Facebook page that had been dedicated to the search for Dwyer, facebook.com/findkellydwyer,

A spokeswoman for members of the Dwyer family said they are grieving and have no comment.
