Police bolstering presence at Glenbard East

There will be an increased police presence Friday at Glenbard East High School in response to rumored threats of violence that authorities are calling “unsubstantiated.”

Principal Josh Chambers told parents in a Wednesday email that Lombard police and school administrators interviewed more than 100 students about a “potential violent incident.”

He said authorities determined the rumors lacked credibility and “were the product of supposition and hype.”

Still, police will be at the school Friday to “remind students that pranks of this nature will not be tolerated and that Glenbard East is safe,” Chambers said.

“We are thankful that students brought this situation to the attention of an adult immediately,” Chambers said. “Students also need to be aware that we take statements that may cause others to be alarmed very seriously and will pursue consequences even when such incidents are intended as pranks.”
