Theater events: Mood swings and more in Copley's 'Menopause The Musical'

That certain age

Four women who meet at a department store lingerie sale discuss the travails of middle age - mood swings, hot flashes, chocolate cravings and the like - in "Menopause The Musical." The cast includes Goodman and Steppenwolf veteran Judy Blue and Megan Cavanagh, who plays Queen Luna on Nickelodeon's "WINX Club." Performances begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Paramount's Copley Theatre, 8 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora. $42. (630) 896-6666 or paramountaurora.com.

'Doubt' at Writers

Writers Theatre presents, for the first time in its history, a site-specific staging of John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize-winning "Doubt: A Parable," about the battle of wills between Catholic school principal Sister Aloysius and Father Flynn, a young priest with modern ideas, who may be abusing a student. Director William Brown's revival takes place at the Glencoe Union Church while construction on Writers' new theater center continues. Previews continue at 8 p.m. Friday, May 1; 4 and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 2; 2 and 6 p.m. Sunday, May 3; and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at 263 Park Ave., Glencoe. The show opens Wednesday, May 6. $35-$75. (847) 242-6000 or writerstheatre.org.

Goodman's 'Little Foxes'

Goodman Theatre revives Lillian Hellman's 1939 examination of greed and betrayal, in which three wealthy siblings scheme to gain control of the family plantation and a proposed cotton mill by especially odious means. Chicago-area luminaries including Shannon Cochran, Mary Beth Fisher, John Judd, Steve Pickering and Larry Yando are among the actors in director Henry Wishcamper's production. Previews begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at 170 N. Dearborn St., Chicago. The show opens May 11. $25-$81. (312) 443-3800 or goodmantheatre.org.
