Trinity International University Choir and Orchestra Concert May 3

The Trinity International University Concert Choir and Community Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Haydn's "Heiligmesse" together on Sunday afternoon, May 3, at 3:00 pm.

The "Heiligmesse" Mass no. 10 in b-flat major was written in 1796, in honor of St. Bernard of Offida, a Capuchin monk who devoted himself to helping the poor. Scored for choir, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, trumpets, timpani, strings and organ, the setting is divided into six movements.

The Concert Choir is Trinity's premier choral organization. This co-ed group, which typically stands in a mixed rather than sectional formation, has a repertoire that includes chant, 16th-century polychoral masterpieces, late 20th-century music, spirituals, and contemporary gospel settings. The group, which travels both nationally and internationally, has more than 40 members and welcomes both music and non-music majors to participate.

Dr. Paul J. Satre, professor of music and university organist at Trinity, conducts the choir. He is a graduate of TIU and the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. Satre has conducted and toured with collegiate choirs throughout the United States and overseas and has taught courses in music theory, conducting, piano, composition, church music, and jazz.

The Trinity Community Philharmonic Orchestra is a 70-member ensemble that includes students, alumni, musicians and music educators from the local metropolitan community.

Guest conductor Robert Nordling leads the orchestra. He serves as the principal conductor of the Baroque on Beaver Island Music Festival and is active as a guest conductor around the world. Critics and musicians have described his performances as passionate, intense, and vivid.

In addition to conducting the Trinity orchestra, Nordling is involved in training student orchestras at the high school and university levels and has also taught in the areas of music history, music appreciation, and conducting.

The concert will take place in the ATO Chapel on the Deerfield campus, located at 2065 Half Day Road. Tickets are $8 for General Admission, $5 for students and seniors, and may be purchased at the door or by calling 847-317-8021.
