Softball: Lake County roundup

Amanda Diaz just missed hitting for the cycle, and Mundelein's softball team posted its season-high run total in a 25-7 nonconference win over host Hersey in Arlington Heights on Saturday.

The Mustangs scored 7 runs in the second inning to erase a 4-0 deficit and then erupted for 15 runs in the third.

Diaz went 4-for-5 with a home run, triple and 2 singles to pace an 18-hit attack over five innings. Maddie Zazas (2-for-4) tripled twice for Mundelein (16-4), while Hannah Bulgart (3-for-3) doubled two times. Jordyn West (2-for-4) also homered for the Mustangs, Maria DeVito (2-for-2) had a double and Maggie Mahar doubled as well.

Nicole Parney pitched 2⅔ innings in relief, allowing no earned run, to pick up the win.

Wauconda 8, Fremd 5: At Libertyville, Kayla Wedl hit 2 home runs and earned the win in the circle, striking out 13 batters.

Brooke Sefcik and Hayley Redmann also homered for Wauconda (12-9). Wedl (3 RBI) and Mallory Carver (double) both finished 3-for-4. Sefcik and Redmann each went 2-for-4, and Taylor Lambert was 2-for-2 off the bench.
