Two children suffer minor injuries in school bus crash in Vernon Hills

Two children suffered minor injuries Friday morning in an accident involving a school bus and a car in Vernon Hills.

The Countryside Fire Protection District in a news release said emergency crews responded at 8 a.m. to a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus on Evergreen Drive at Camden Place.

The bus, which had four children on board, suffered minor damage to the rear of the vehicle, according to Countryside. Two of the children were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center with minor injuries, but they were released, according to Hawthorn elementary District 73 Superintendent Nick Brown.

The other two students continued to school on another bus, according to the release.

No other injuries were reported. The other vehicle also had minor damage, according to Countryside.

Brown said there were four students on the bus, but he did not know their ages. He said elementary and high school students use the bus.

The students were being picked up to be taken to school, Brown said. A car struck the bus in the rear near a tire, he said. The bus was not disabled but the protocol is to put the students on another bus, he added.

Further details were not immediately available.
