Lake Zurich's Nolan tossed shutout against Libertyville
Shane Nolan went the distance on the mound, throwing a four-hit shutout, as Lake Zurich's baseball team beat host Libertyville 5-0 in North Suburban Lake Division action Tuesday.
Nolan (2-3) struck out nine and walked one.
Lake Zurich (9-11, 3-2) scored four times in the second inning, with Trevor Staley doubling in the first run. Zach Bauman followed with an RBI single, Kyle Conlon's groundout made it 3-0 and Jacob Kubin's run-scoring single capped the inning.
Libertyville's only hits came from Jimmy Govern, Ryan Jackson, Sean Ferraro and Nick Rossetti.
Mundelein 9, Lake Forest 0: Sophomore Brendan Murphy struck out eight and allowed only 1 hit over 5 innings, as the visiting Mustangs won again in North Suburban Lake action.
Zach Zagula was 3-for-4 and Sam Osisek went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles for Mundelein (14-5, 3-0). The Mustangs also got doubles from Jake Breitenreiter, Reese Dolan and Carter Naughton.
Warren 8, Stevenson 4: Andrew Hill got the win and also homered for the visiting Blue Devils in the North Suburban Lake contest.
Hill allowed 2 runs and 4 hits over 4 innings, striking out seven. He finished 2-for-4 at the plate with 3 RBI.
Jalen Powe also homered and drove in 3 runs for Warren (12-6, 3-2). Chris Mathieu was 3-for-4, and Ben Perner went 2-for-4.
Stevenson received 2 hits apiece from Jimmy Marchese and Willie Bourbon. Marchese, Bourbon and Robert McGaha doubled for the Patriots.
Wauconda 7, Antioch 3: Kevin Malisheski allowed 1 run over 6 innings with 12 strikeouts and 3 walks, leading the visiting Bulldogs to the North Suburban Prairie win.
Trevor Sefcik led the way offensively for Wauconda (7-6), going 3-for-3 with a double. Luke Weller was 2-for-5 for the Bulldogs.
Antioch got a triple from Travis Slywka, who had 2 hits, as did his teammate Ben Gutke.
Vernon Hills 19, North Chicago 2: Eric Weiler threw a complete game for Vernon Hills in the North Suburban Prairie game.
Robby Nardini led the way offensively for the Cougars with 3 hits in his first varsity start. Bradley Fisher and Justin Falk also had hits for the Cougars.
Lakes 21, Round Lake 1: Bryan Gross doubled twice for the host Eagles in the North Suburban Prairie game, while Max Swiatek had a double and triple.
Lakes also received 2 hits apiece from Cody Nuxoll, Justin Blasinski (double), Matt Nordlund (double) and Zach Meyer. Matt Putman added a triple, while winning pitcher Jeremy Mackey threw all 5 innings (0 earned runs), striking out eight.
McHenry 9, Grant 5: The Bulldogs dropped the nonconference game, despite a 2-run homer by Ben Kusiak and solo shot by Nick Heidenthal.
St. Viator 5, Carmel 2: The Corsairs fell to 0-3 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.
