Strong showing at State for Ultimate's Level 3 and 4 teams

Strong performances on the competition floor resulted in state titles and club records as the Level 3 and 4 girls' teams from Ultimate Gymnastics of Gurnee ended their competitive season in style.

By chalking up 11 gold medals at the meet, the Level 4 girls can now also claim the club record for the most first -place finishes for Ultimate at a single state championship. The Youth section of the team placed first at state, while the combined team placed second, missing out on first by only 0.025.

The strong team showing was made possible, in part, by three individual all-around champions: Reese Berke in the Youth C age group, Chloe Byrne in the Youth B division and Jillian Ellenwood in the Child C session.

In addition, Jillian and Chloe each claimed three individual event titles to go with their all-around gold, making them the first Ultimate gymnasts to win four state titles at a single state championship. Chloe's 9.90 on balance beam also set a new club scoring record on that event.

The team's other gold medal came on vault in the Youth F section when Amanda Hamann's 9.70 performance took her to the top of the podium. She also added a bronze medal on uneven bars and placed second in the all-around.

Other notable performances came from Emma Haas (Youth F), who placed third on both vault and in the all-around, and Maddie Friel (Senior A), who was second on beam and third on both bars and in the all-around.

There were silver medals for Lindsay Fontana (Junior F) on vault and Madison Miks (Junior C) on floor exercise, and bronze for Annika Chudy (Youth A) on vault.

Not to be outdone, the Level 3 girls also had successes to celebrate. In the Youth F age group, Elizabeth Butler was crowned all-around champion after a consistent performance saw her place second on both beam and floor and third on vault.

In the Child C division, Sienna Heizer took gold on floor exercise and was runner-up on both uneven bars and in the all-around. The team's third State title came in the Youth C session when Mackenzie Liebau scored 9.525 to take the top spot on vault. There was also a bronze medal for Josie Gates (Youth D) on floor exercise.
