A man died after becoming trapped in a machine yesterday afternoon in Elk Grove Village, fire officials said. It took firefighters 10 minutes to free the man from the equipment at ACME Industries, and the worker was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said. Full story.

Wheeling man takes cab to gas station, robs it

A Wheeling man who took a cab to the Palatine gas station he intended to rob, and afterward practically walked into the arms of a waiting police officer, pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery charges yesterday. Kevin Katsev, 31, was ordered to serve 94 days in jail and sentenced to 30 months mental-health probation in exchange for his plea. Full story.

Arlington Heights police investigate after vandalism found near Westgate

Vandalism found near Westgate Elementary School in Arlington Heights suggested a bomb threat, leading to an investigation yesterday, school officials said. Police searched inside the school and the surrounding areas and determined there was no immediate threat, school officials said. Full story.
