Aurora man charged in crash that injured Illinois trooper

OSWEGO - A 27-year-old Aurora man has been charged with driving under the influence after allegedly crashing into an Illinois State Police trooper's car.

An Illinois State Police statement says Magana Leonel is accused of running a stop sign at an intersection. He then allegedly hit the squad car of Trooper Chad Martinez, injuring him. The collision happened Sunday in Oswego just before 3 a.m.

The state police statement on Wednesday didn't provide details on the trooper's condition. But State Police Director Leo Schmitz says he's thankful Martinez "survived this preventable and unfortunate crash."

Leonel posted bond at Oswego Police Department pending a resolution of the case.

The State Police statement did not include a defense lawyer's name for Martinez. There's was also no public telephone listing for him in Aurora.
