Two HMS Students Honored with IPA Awards

Two Highland Middle School eighth-graders were recognized for their outstanding achievements in the school and community in an annual Student Recognition Breakfast held by the Lake Region Illinois Principals Association. The breakfast was held April 7 at Vernon Hills High School. Principal Jon Hallmark recommended Bailey Elizabeth Latka (daughter of Nancy and Ken Latka) and Bryan Michael Bystol (son of Debbie and Mike Bystol).

Bailey is an 8th grader at Highland Middle School. Bailey is a 4.0 grade point average student, sings in the school Concert Choir and will be in the school musical. "In high school she looks forward to trying out for the poms team," said Hallmark. "Bailey's favorite subject is math. Bailey's incredible character and kindness make her a 'Class Act' student who is extremely worthy of this recognition."

Bryan is on the school wrestling team and plays football for the Libertyville Boys Football Club. His favorite subject in school is social studies. "In high school he looks forward to trying out for the football team," Hallmark said. "Bryan says that he will miss the comfort of middle school, but is looking forward to continuing his commitment towards his academics at Libertyville High School next school year. Bryan's tremendous character and positive attitude make him a 'Class Act' student who is very worthy of this recognition."
