Dist. 70 students honored for efforts in school and out

Four District 70 students were recognized for their outstanding achievements in the school and community in an annual Student Recognition Breakfast held by the Lake Region Illinois Principals Association. The breakfast was held April 8 at Vernon Hills High School.

Rockland Elementary School fifth-graders Grace Moore, daughter of Heather and Scott Moore, and Reeve Lounsbury, daughter of Tina and Lincoln Lounsbury, were honored after being nominated by Principal Jeff Knapp.

"Grace has had a positive influence on Rockland School in her years as a student," Knapp said. "Grace is a very high achieving student in the classroom, always demonstrating effort and motivation. She is a great role model to others in her class. Grace is also the Student Council president of Rockland School this year and holds many responsibilities with this position. Additionally, Grace is on the Rockland basketball squad and plays an instrument in the band. She is a great leader and very deserving of this honor."

"Reeve consistently demonstrates all of the pillars of character and always shows the Rockland Way," Knapp added. "She has a positive attitude and is always willing to help and work with others. Reeve participates in numerous extra curricular activities both in and out of school. She is a valued member of Rockland School's basketball team, where she is a team player and supports and cheers on her classmates. Reeve also participates in our school's chorus club and performs at various school events throughout the year. Outside of school, Reeve is also a member of the Red Rose Children's Choir of Lake County where she performs at corporate, sport, school, and church events. Reeve is a hard worker and always has an upbeat and respectful personality, which contributes to a positive classroom environment!"

Two Highland Middle School eighth-graders also were honored at the IPA breakfast. Principal Jon Hallmark recommended Bailey Elizabeth Latka, daughter of Nancy and Ken Latka, and Bryan Michael Bystol, son of Debbie and Mike Bystol.

Bailey is a 4.0 grade-point average student, sings in the school Concert Choir and will be in the school musical. "In high school she looks forward to trying out for the poms team," Hallmark said. "Bailey's favorite subject is math. Bailey's incredible character and kindness make her a 'Class Act' student who is extremely worthy of this recognition."

Bryan is on the school wrestling team and plays football for the Libertyville Boys Football Club. His favorite subject in school is social studies.

"In high school he looks forward to trying out for the football team," Hallmark said. "Bryan says that he will miss the comfort of middle school, but is looking forward to continuing his commitment toward his academics at Libertyville High School next school year. Bryan's tremendous character and positive attitude make him a 'Class Act' student who is very worthy of this recognition."
