Police looking for baby remains at Streamwood home
Investigators on Wednesday are continuing to search a Streamwood property where a 21-year-old woman told police the remains of her baby were disposed of after she miscarried a year ago.
She also accused her boyfriend of causing the miscarriage in an episode of domestic violence.
The claims surfaced only recently when an acquaintance of the woman told Streamwood police the woman was a victim of repeated domestic violence.
Police tracked the woman down at her job. During interviews with police, she told them she suffered a miscarriage during an unreported "domestic violence incident" in spring 2014, authorities said. The woman accused her boyfriend, said Deputy Police Chief Ed Valente.
The woman added the baby was "disposed of" at the home on the 1200 block of Lincoln Court, just south of Irving Park Road. The couple live at the home with extended family members.
Valente said several people from the home were in custody, but on Wednesday night, police would not say whether anyone had been charged, promising a news release would be issued today.
The woman is cooperating with the investigation, he added.
Police are searching both inside the house and outside, but Valente said at this point they are not even sure there is a body to find.
He would not answer directly whether the woman told police where to look.
Valente also would not say how far along the pregnant woman was when she miscarried.
On Tuesday, police requested the assistance of a Northern Illinois Police Alarm System tactical squad to execute a search warrant at the home. Forensic teams and K-9 units have since been combing the home.
Valente also would not say whether the search has uncovered anything to support the woman's allegations, but he said police would be releasing more details later today.
Streamwood officers have had previous contact with the home's residents.
"It's been numerous," said Valente, who wouldn't disclose the nature of the police calls to the home.
He said the friend of the woman was acting out of concern for her when she went to police.
